According to data released in early July in ATF’s 2010 Interim Annual Firearm Manufacturing and Export Report, U.S. firearm manufacturers produced more than 5.4 million firearms in 2010. Year-over-year total U.S. firearm production declined 2.7 percent. Handgun production increased 14.9 percent, while rifle production decreased 18.8 percent and shotgun production declined 1.2 percent. The 2010 figures are interim data; final 2010 data are expected by Jan. 30.
